I don't know what everyone else read to even think about giving this book 5 stars, but they have lost their mind...Now I must say the first two books were the bomb..this book is like the writer didn't know what to write so instead of finishing where the book left off, they start back when the girls were young...wtf..and then dragsssss...omg..I will give props when they are due and this book got on my nerves so bad I requested my money back..I think the ppl who rated had to be friends of the writer I'm sorry..the only reason I give it one star is for the effort..buy at your own risk.

T. Styles does not disappoint omg all of these girls are NUTS and I don't know whose worse. This series should not end I want more not ready to let these crazy women go. Page turner from the first to the last and I loved every second of it !!!

One of the worst book I ever read

This book was beyond stupid and ridiculous. The book didn't even continued from the last book. Jayden was supposed to have Dissociative Identity Disorder but not be a pimp and serial killer. Then all the extra people in the book (Luh Rod, Sebastian, Metha) They has no business being in the book. And why did Jace have to die ? Why did Harmony have another baby ? Why did Mad get mixed up with that weird crowd called the Catacombs ? Why did Madjesty baby get stolen ? How did Harmony get in the mental clinic in the first place ? Why was Harmony killed but not just put in prison ? Why did Shaggy have to die ? Why did Kreshon have to die ? Why was Kali missing in action ? Why was Jayden still running that dumb prostitution ring 13 Flavors ? What happened to Ramona and Laura ? What will happened to Concord Manor ? What will happened to Madjesty baby ? Why Kali ever see Madjesty or his grandchild ? What will happened to Mad Max ? Nothing was answered in this book.

Oh My Gosh...This might be my new favorite childrens book!

My son asked to buy this at his school book fair. He is in the 2nd grade and is into chapter books now but really wanted this book. Upon arriving home he immediately began reading it to his little sister, a 1st grader, and the family friends that happened to be visiting. He was so animated while he was reading that it took us grown-ups back to a time when we use to sit in our grade school classrooms and have the teachers read to us! The rhythm of the passages made it easy for him to read as well. And the ending... wonderful to say the least! I wanted him to read it again as soon as he was done.

I have recommended this to all my friends with young children. The illustrations are beautiful and I find my two children with the book just looking at the pages just to see what they missed the last time they looked at it.

Yes, it has a wonderful message as well. The power of positive choices and influences and my kids understood this too. We have children's books all over our house and this one is now residing in our 'favorites' section along with Dr Seuss and a few others.

We have decided to video tape my son reading it since we enjoy the book and how he reads it. We will be sending the video with the book to some young friends for Christmas (and I will get my copy as well!)

This Book Teaches an Important Psychological Truth

As a positive psychologist I am very impressed with this book's important message. Often times people spend a life time grumpy or down in the dumps, unaware of who they really are or what their potential is. So imagine a world, where kids learn at two and three that they are in control of their nature and do have a choice as to how to respond! Our world would be so much better off. And that is the way I see this book. The fish has this great realization that the very parts of him that he felt made him dreay and weary, were really the parts that turn him into a kissing fish who could spread cheer everywhere! I hope moms and dads use the insight level of this book to encourage discussion and remind their kids that they can turn any of their traits into good and positive uses! This book is a must for young kids and their parents and should leave all kissing!

Really Deserves Five Stars

I don't believe for a second that the vocabulary level is really the point of this book. It has rhythm, alliteration, and emotion. If you read like Ben Stein, it might not be that great.
But if you are excited to read it with your kids, it brings the story to life. Don't worry about a few big words. Kids don't know all of the meanings to every word, but they can understand the story through context, just like we do.
Pout Pout is wonderful. I have it for my son who has loved it since he was 6 months when I found it. I gave it as a shower gift. My friend's new born loves the rhythm and feels soothed by hearing this book.

Garcia-Lopez began drawing comics professionally in Argentina at age 13; he came to the U.S. in 1974 and quickly began receiving plum assignments. The dynamic yet graceful style he developed mostly in pirate and other historical stories before immigrating proved ideal for the superhero genre, and eventually he was asked to design the style guides for definitive versions of the likes of Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman to be used in licensing. Most closely associated with costumed crime fighters, Garcia-Lopez has occasionally done science fiction, westerns, even the Depression-era Road to Perdition graphic novels. The book's long interview isn't particularly revealing--like many comics artists, Garcia-Lopez's approach seems largely instinctive--but offers insight into the work life of an extremely successful journeyman comics artist. The main appeal here lies in the illustrations, which include pages (many in the original pencil versions), sketches, character designs, and concept drawings for the film Batman Returns. Gordon Flagg

Interesting Stuff

BRILLIANT & UNDERRATED ARTIST

I guess the two words that come to mind when I think about comic book artist Jose Luis Garcia Lopez are consistent and underrated. Those two words seem to best describe the career of a man who rarely has gotten the accolades he deserves as one of the great artists of the last 25 years. After reading the lengthy interview with him in this volume five of the Modern Masters series from TwoMorrows Publishing, certainly Jose's humble and quiet nature seems to be one of the reasons he is so underrated. He's clearly a guy who isn't looking for the spotlight. He hasn't tried to match the younger artists of the day by doing books filled with nothing but splash pages and poor anatomy. He's just been content to be a dependent workhorse for DC comics. While Jose may not have achieved the level of stardom that other artists have, you get the feeling that it really doesn't matter to him. There's a lot of laughter throughout the interview and Jose seems very happy with his career.

Jose was born in Spain but moved to Argentina with his family when he was very young. He would get his America comic book start with Charlton on mainly romance titles. Jose's many eclectic influences are certainly a factor behind his level of professionalism. From old masters Alex Raymond and Hal Foster, to modern artists like Moebius and Ross Andru, and to great illustrators like Norman Rockwell, Jose relates just how each of these men as influenced his work through the years.

Jose would start at DC in the late 1970's and worked on a variety of projects. Jose did much of the art for DC's merchandising and marketing campaigns including their "Got Milk?" ad featuring Superman. Jose was also the artist who worked on DC's first graphic novel Star Raiders. Interviewer Eric Nolen-Weathington does a wonderful job covering Jose's very diverse career in comics, even getting into the mediums in which Jose likes to work in and his preferred types of tools which is invaluable advice for aspiring comic artists. My personal favorite was the work he did on the Deadman limited series and kudos to TwoMorrows for reprinting some of the work inside this book.

The interview runs through the first three-quarters of the book. The last part is dedicated to a Jose Luis Garcia Lopez art gallery displaying numerous sketches, finished works, covers, and pages from throughout his distinguished career. There's a fantastic drawing of Elvira, Mistress of the Dark sitting on Santa's lap, sketches and color guides from the Cinder & Ashe limited series and two brilliant illustrations, one featuring Wonder Woman and another with Superman and Lois Lane.

Hats off to TwoMorrows Publishing for aiming the spotlight on this humble, under-appreciated talent!

One of my Top 3 favorites in the series...

What a great surprise this artist is for me! I bought this interview on the strength of the brilliant cover art- I'm happy to say the interior work is every bit as good.

Highlights here for me...
*The 1st 45 pages- I love everything about these pages. From his pirate-themed work in his early days, to his fantastic influences, to his definitive work for DC and their licensed merchandise, everything about this nearly 1st half of the book is beautiful & inspiring.
*Pencils & inks displayed- it's not just inked work reproduced. I really love JLGL's art in pencil *without* inks, so it's nice to see some of his purely penciled work included. Of course his inked stuff is great as well.

This interview actually goes well with John Buscema's How To Draw Comics The Marvel Way; compared side-by-side, it almost serves as a DC version of that book. It's an interview & not a how-to-draw type work, but JLGL's art is a standard of excellence in regards to definitive depictions of DC characters. The current covers of these books seem similar too, with their variety of major characters & white, yellow, red, and blue color schemes. Both volumes are also similar in physical size, although Marvel Way has more pages.

Unlike my other 2 favorites in the series, this interview includes some color work along with the many pieces of black & white artwork displayed throughout. Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez is highly praised with reason: just check out the picture of Superman & Lois flying high over a cityscape complete with rainbow (p.117) to see what I mean. Truly fantastic pencils!

My other current favorites in the series include Modern Masters, Vol. 7: John Byrne (Modern Masters), and Modern Masters Volume 2: George Perez. Yet they keep on releasing great interviews!

About the Author

John Pinel, the author of Biopsychology, obtained his PhD from McGill University in Montreal. He worked briefly at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology before taking up his current position at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. Professor Pinel is an award-winning teacher and the author of over 200 scientific papers; however, he feels that Biopsychology is his major career-related accomplishment. “It ties together everything that I love about my job: students, teaching, writing, and research.”

 

When asked about his personal interests, Professor Pinel speaks glowingly of his partner, Maggie, and son, Greg. The high quality of the illustrations in Biopsychology is largely attributable to the effort and talents of Maggie, who is an artist and technical writer. Greg is currently completing his PhD at the London School of Economics, specializing in social and educational programs for indigenous peoples.

 

“I get most of my exercise by rehearsing and performing West African drum rhythms,” Professor Pinel says. “For a peak mental and physical experience, a bit of Kpanlogo with my friend, Nigerian drum master Kwasi Iruoje is hard to beat.” Most of Professor Pinel’s relaxation comes from cuddling his cats, Sambala, Rastaman, and Squeak.

Great Accompaniment

I purchased this book as a companion to John P. J. Pinel's Biopsycholgoy (8th edition) for a class. This workbook was not required, but I found it very helpful for two reasons:

1. I have never taken a class involving neuroscience of any kind, and I knew that these concepts would be difficult for me to fully understand. This workbook broke down the parts of the human nervous system in a way that made it simple and straightforward.
2. I found it exceedingly comforting and relaxing to simply color. I enjoyed choosing what colors to use, shading in the appropriate shapes, while simultaneously learning. This subject matter can be intimidating for some, and stressful for others, and the act of coloring removes some of these boundaries.

These descriptions are very brief summaries which provide a good reinforcement of what you learned from whatever textbook you are using (assuming you are in a class on biopsychology, neuropsychology, or a biology class about the nervous system).

I would recommend this book to anyone who feels that they need some extra help in understanding the complex structures of the human nervous system.

This is a good book for someone who knows next to nothing about neuroanatomy but if you have at least a basic working knowledge of the brain then this book is not for you. I'd suggest going for the popular competitor. I'm a Neuroscience Undergrad and wanted a simple neuroanatomy coloring book to pass the time and seal in anatomical structures but this book was overly simplistic. I ordered the competitor and am much happier with that purchase. HOWEVER, if you are new to the world of neuroanatomy I think this book will be a solid buy - it gives clear descriptions and the drawings are not complicated. It is for that reason I give it 4 stars. It would be 5 but some of the enlargements for the pictures looked distorted which made the book seem "cheap", other than that, for a neuroanatomy novice/beginner - this is a good book, but if you have already learned a thing or two about the brain, go with the competitor.

Great balance between education and fun with coloring.

I bought this as a gift to my adult daughter. She had requested it as it's both educational and fun. She tells me she likes that there are some aspects of this book that get into psychology. She can also appreciate the many drawings that she can color when she just needs a break from the educational. The paper feels like it's high quality. What I did read was written at a level I could understand. I have no medical expertise. Based on what I've seen and felt myself along with her comments to me...I can recommend this book.

Beautiful, honest, naked, inspiring.

I don't usually read auto-biographies, downloaded Shoe Dog on a whim and could not put it down until I reached the very last page. The final chapter materialized through a curtain of tears.

Knight's story is intriguing, his words so straight and bare that I feel I've made a new friend.

Read this if you are an entrepreneur (or married to one), an athlete, an adventurer, or simply a human. This is not the story of a company, but of the souls and persons, great adventures and struggles behind the brand.

I love this book

I love this book. I read an advance copy a few months ago and was really taken with the charm, humor and wisdom of the narrative voice. I'm sure a lot of people will buy this book hoping for a how-to guide on founding a bold, innovative corporation. Those people won't be disappointed, for there's lots here on the topic of creative thinking, risk taking and dream chasing. But for me, the book was a beautiful reflection on youth, vision, caprice, doggedness, good cheer and a profound competitive spirit. Knight is a natural storyteller, and he looks back on his early days as an entrepreneur with clarity, wonder and humor. I laughed on nearly every page, but the portrait that emerges is one of a young man with little but a dream to anchor him, a mentor to guide him and an unshakable belief that he can actually make it all work. Most important, it's love that gives the entire enterprise purpose. That's inspiring.

TRULY A "FIVE-STAR" READ

Well written, historically-accurate biographies are among my favorite genres ... and I expect many others as well. While I didn't know Phil Knight's name or recognize his many achievements prior to reading the publisher's profile of this book before ordering it for my personal e-reader, I was pleasantly surprised to discover the outstanding job of publishing and interesting story behind this modern "Horatio Alger" success story; in addition to being a fascinating "behind-the-scene" accounting of "Nike's" remarkable climb to excellence. Knight is clearly an interesting, funny, brilliant individual ... the proof of which becomes abundantly clear throughout this excellent book.
