A Critical Book for Our Epoch

This is one of the most critical books for our epoch. According to Trotsky, the working class can lead humanity out of its impasse of war and oppression, if it has a tested communist leadership. He puts forward a program for such a leadership to inspire workers with the confidence that as a class we can seize power from the destructive capitalist class. With his strategic sense of history, he paints a picture of the leadership tests that will occur as workers try to defend themselves, against unemployment, inflation, war, or against the secret strikebreaking or fascist gangs of the capitalists. A revolutionary communist party must prepare for revolutionary times now. Revolutionaries who wait have always failed. This book is totally grounded in Trotsky's experience at the side of Lenin during the Russian Revolution and the early revolutionary years of the Communist International. Among the interesting and very relevant sections is one on how the revolutionary party can guide the working class to achieve unity with farmers, since these two exploited classes are taught to distrust each other under capitalism. As you read this book, you will say to yourself-"this is just what we need today!"

This remarkable book contains the Transitional Program, the founding document of the revolutionary movement Trotsky built. As you will read in this book, it was not written by Trotsky alone, but was the product of the experience of fighting workers from every continent. It was written to apply the lessons of the Russian revolution to the world, particularly to the realities of class struggle in the United States. It also contains discussions Trotsky had with American revolutionists and union leaders like Farrell Dobbs and Vincent Dunne, leaders of the great Minneapolis Strikes of the 1930s that made the Teamsters a real force in the labor movement. It also contains attempts to apply this program to the struggles of African Americans and other working people. This is a practical handbook on how to change the world.

Comprehensive guide to translating French to English

This is the only book of which I am aware that provides comprehensive and specific advice concerning the difficult assignment of translating French to English. It not only offers principles and precepts but it also offers outstanding examples of possible translations. The focus is not on literal translation but rather focues on the process of making the translation into English that mirrors the author's original design. The recently issued softcover edition makes this a must buy for any advanced student of french.

A Workbook With No Answer Key ?

I purchased this book in order to do a self-study of french to english translation. Though the book seems to have many good exercises, there is no answer key to the exercises in the book. I don't know how one is supposed to utilize the exercises if no answers are given. I emailed the publisher (The University Press in Lanham, MD) several times before they responded that they do not have an answer key on file. Thus I feel like the book was a real waste of money. Also, I read in another review that this book would be good for a translator of any language. I disagree, the focus of the book is french, and I think a non-french speaker will not find it very useful.

Grade 3-5. Zack is a normal 10-year-old boy with a knack for getting into weird situations. In Wanda, he attempts to rid his apartment of a rude eight-year-old poltergeist who communicates by spelling out words with peanut M&Ms. In Litter Box, he plans to adopt a kitten but instead acquires a cantankerous talking cat that claims to be the reincarnation of his great-grandfather. He sees his reflection in the Medicine Cabinet mirror and falls through into a skewed world that its inhabitants consider much "cooler" than ours. An electrical accident occurs at school and Zap!?Zack can hear thoughts, including a bloodthirsty voice expressing an eagerness to kill. The stories have a whacked-out, off-the-wall humor that is reminiscent of the work of Daniel Pinkwater. At the same time, they neatly poke fun at the conventions of popular horror series. Kids will find some of the episodes tremendously funny. Great-Grandpa the cat threatens to "take a leak" on the sofa if Zack doesn't provide him with his preferred food (herring with sour cream!); Wanda and a fellow ghost yank down a bully's pants. I bought this book for my son and he absolutely loved it. We has the pleasure of meeting Mr. Greenburg at a literacy event at my son's elementary school. Not only is Mr. Greenburg an amazing writer, but he is an amazing speaker who brought his books to life. My son wants to now get all of Mr. Greenburg's books

Much Better than Previous Books

I bought this for my second semester of school. I like it way better than the Wilken's text, "Clinical Practice of the Dental Hygienist" that we had before. I like the formatting much better, it explains everything in a way that is easier to understand and the pictures much more informative.
